K & R Mitsubishi Brean Stages Rally
Three Ludlow Castle Motor Club crews made the long trip down to Brean Leisure Park, near Weston-Super-Mare, at the weekend to take part in the two day K & R Mitsubishi Stages Rally.
The event, which supported Help the Heroes, was organised by Club Rally Sport West and attracted over 60 entries.
The stages around the Leisure Park on the Saturday were very slippery to start off with as temperatures were below zero, but the weather was generally sunny and dry for the two days of the event.
The tarmac event is hard on cars and only 39 crews finished with the majority of the non-finishers retiring with mechanical problems.
The highest placed LCMC crew were Neil Weaver and Bonnie Fishburn, co-driving for the very first time, in the Darrian. They finished 6th O/A, 1st in Class, and 1st 2-Wheel Drive car.
Neil’s father Eric was driving in the Ford Anglia 105E, co-driven by Andrew “Maps” Sankey.
They had a trouble free weekend and crossed the finish line 15th O/A and 6th in Class. In addition to this good result they received the award for the best prepared car of the event.
John Howells and Tony Bounds were doing well until the 12th run of the weekend when a misfire caused their Ford Escort MK2 to stop just after crossing the start line, going no further. As they had actually crossed the start line they were given a maximum time for that stage. This meant they were classified as finishers and came home in 34th position.
