focus 3 GRAVEL SPRINT 2006

Ludlow Castle Motor Club held its third focus 3 Gravel Sprint on Sunday 22nd January in the Haye Park / Mortimer Forest complex near Ludlow.

The thirty three drivers taking part had to compete not only without co-drivers but also had to cope with the very foggy and slippery conditions which didn’t improve throughout the day.

The drivers were taken through the stage in the morning in convoy and then were allowed a familiarisation run before they had two competitive timed runs which counted towards the results.

This was repeated in the afternoon but in the opposite direction.

Last year’s winner, Nigel Griffiths, did not take part in the event and Shaun Gardener repeated his 2004 success by finishing first again on Sunday in the TNT Tyres (Ludlow ) Mitsubishi Lancer EVO5.

Shaun’s nearest rival was Simon Rogers in his Ford Escort Cosworth which finished 31 seconds later.

In third place overall less than three seconds behind Simon came Richard Hill in the R.H.Motors Japanese Imports Mitsubishi Lancer.

Ludlow Castle Motor Club would like to thank the sponsors, focus 3, and all the marshals, radio and safety crews who helped to make the event successful.

The Motor Club will be holding a video social evening of the event at the Salwey Arms, Woofferton, near Ludlow on Wednesday 1st February at 8.30pm. The evening is open to everyone, for further details please contact Keith on 01584 781265.
