LUDLOW CASTLE MOTOR CLUB
AUTOTEST
12.11.06
Seven competitors took part in the second autotest of
the year organised by Michael Wilding on behalf of Ludlow
Castle Motor Club.
The recent event took place at Henley Hill Farm, Bitterley,
on a stubble field kindly provided by Steve Howells and
Mike Davis.
The competitors faced four different driving tests, each
of which had to be taken four times.
The top three finishers of the Henley Hill autotest were
identical to that of the previous autotest, once again
proving that the old fashioned Mini is the ideal vehicle
for this type of motorsport.
Full results are as below:
1st O/A David Lloyd Mini 657 secs
2nd O/A Liam Rollings Mini 699 secs
3rd O/A Philip Martin Mini 708 secs

GON Granite & Marble
Cambrian Rally 2006
The very last Round of the 2006 Silverstone
Competition Tyres BTRDA Rally Series took place in North
Wales last Saturday.
The GON Cambrian & Marble Cambrian Rally was based
in Llandudno with blasts
around the Great Orme to start and finish the competitive
action.
In between these two Special Stages, the 120 competitors
visited the forests of Alwen, Clocaenog and Penmachno
where they faced very cold, bright sunshine and sections
that were extremely slippery.
Five crews from Ludlow Castle Motor Club made the trip
to North Wales but due to mechanical problems only two
of them managed to reach the finish .
The first to retire was Simon Rogers in his Ford Escort
Cosworth on SS2 with a broken front differential.
The next stage claimed the Vauxhall Nova of brothers Martin
and Simon Ridge who were forced out of the event with
a broken gearbox.
The Ford Escort RS of Henri Grehan and Chris Ridge suffered
a broken crossmember ending their day.

Shaun & Ben
The two LCMC crews who did manage
to cross the finish line were not without their problems.
Gear selection in the TNT tyres Mistubishi EVO 5 of the
2006 Silvertstone Competition Tyres Rally Series Gold
Star Champions, Shaun Gardener and Ben Innes, made the
latter stages of the rally very difficult.
They lost 3rd gear on SS6 and then 4th gear on the very
last run around the Great Orme.
Chasing the eventual winner of the event, Andreas Mikkelsen
, was always going to be a difficult task for Shaun and
Ben.
Losing two gears made this even harder and they were very
pleased to finish a very worthy second place O/A behind
the Ford Focus 02 WRC of the young and very talented Norwegian.
Alex
The other LCMC crew to finish the rally
had a very fraught day.
It started on the second stage when Alex Allingham’s
GPn Subaru Impreza slid along the side of the road for
the best part of 300 yards, luckily not hitting anything
or rolling the car. Later on the same stage they had another
big slide and broke the exhaust.
Apart from struggling with the broken exhaust, losing
a door mirror somewhere and having to cope with his co-driver
not keeping with the notes, Alex claimed 12th O/A position
out of the 80 finishers.
Ludlow Castle Motor Club will be holding
another Autotest at Henley Hill Farm, near Bitterley,
on Sunday 12th November.
